Pops and I spent a few hours at the LA Auto Show today. Here are my thoughts by automaker:

Audi: The RS7 is a sexy piece of machinery. I want one. It wasn't open though. I was able to sit in the S3, and I think it was pretty nice. It feels much bigger than the previous A3/S3, and bigger than the B5 S4.

BMW: They had a 328d x-drive Touring, which my parents are seriously interested in. Aside from that, not terribly interesting. X1, X3, X5, 335i GT, 535i GT, yadda yadda...so boring and ugly. They had the 4-series, but I just wasn't interested. They had the X4 concept; gets my award for the most pointless car at the show.

Cadillac: The new CTS is nice, but not really my cup of tea. And I'm not fond of the ergonomics of their center stack and console.

Chevrolet: Sat in the Corvette..oh man. ohmanohman. It's a quantum leap in quality from the C6. And it's beautiful. I must test drive this.

Fiat: 500C Abarth; egads, that interior. Egads, that shifter.

Ford: I forgot to look at the Fiesta ST. Oops.

Jaguar: The F-Type coupe is IMO, the best looking car on sale today. Man, it looks even better in person. I walked by the Vantage S in the Concourse Hall afterwards and I was like yep, I'll take the Jaaaaag. I would have a tough time deciding between the V6 F-Type Coupe, nicely optioned Corvette, and a Cayman S...what a fantastic dilemma that would be to have :)

Lexus: I really wanted to dragon the white LFA. In every one of its three tailpipes. I don't give a shit if it's underpowered...it excites me more than the Ferraris and Lambos just sitting there.

Maserati: This surprised me...the entire model line was present, and EVERY car was open! I sat in the Gran Turismo MC Hammer, the Quattroporte, and the Ghibli. I really liked the Ghibly. The MC is just dripping with carbon fiber sex.

Mazda: Brace your jimmies, the Mazda 6 Skyactive D was present, and it will have a 6-speed manual! The Skyactive D engine will also find its way into the CX-5 at some point. And they are giving the 6 wagon a good hard look.

Mercedes: CLA is meh. GLA is blech. No AMG's were open, and there were no wagons.

Nissan: Oh hey! a GT-R. That looks the same. And is not open. Again. Everything else was dull.

Porsche: They had a 991 GT3 (drool), 918 Spyder (DROOOOOOOOL), and four Macans...NONE of which were open. In fact, none of the cars were open. That really annoyed me...last year every car open, including the new Caymans and the 991. The Macan is fairly small, though I like the proportions.

Subaru: The new WRX looks like a Corolla, though I'm sure it'll be great to drive.

Supercar exhibit: The Ferrari F12 and Lamborghini Aventador are cool...and FUCKING ENORMOUS!

SRT: The matte gray Viper. Hotness.

Volvo: I got to examine the new V60 R-Design wagon (with the turbo Inline-6). Comfy seating, nice dash and console, but...this thing is tiny. It barely passes as a wagon. I swear it has less usable space than my much shorter Golf R. It's good looking though.

VW: The new GTI feels very Audi like inside...very nice. Exterior wise the dimensions are identical to my MK6 R. I'm not sure how I feel about some of the styling elements.

I'll append in the comments if anything else comes to mind. If I didn't mention an automaker, it's because I didn't have any thoughts on what I saw (Honda)..or I didn't even bother visiting their exhibit (Hyundai, Kia, Mini, Toyota, Acura, Chrysler, GMC).
